F1 fans slam Lewis Hamilton for ‘miracle’ bad back recovery after Canada podium

A section of Formula One fans have slammed Lewis Hamilton for his “miracle recovery” from back pains after finishing on the Canadian Grand Prix podium.

Hamilton, 37, finished behind race winner Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz to claim third place in Montreal. It came as a hugely positive turnaround for the Mercedes driver, who has struggled to get performance out of the car all season.

And it appeared even his back problems as a result of the car’s constant bouncing had subsided, having struggled to climb out of the Mercedes' cockpit last week after a gruelling Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Hamilton declared: “I am back to being young again” after securing his second podium of the season and his first since the opening race.

He went on to say: “It's quite overwhelming to get this third place. It's been such a battle this year with the car, but we continue to stay vigilant, focused and never give up. That's something I'm proud of.

“We're getting closer, so we've got to keep pushing and pushing, and hopefully we'll eventually be in the fight with these guys.”

Hamilton is now 98 points behind championship leader and rival Verstappen ahead of his home race at Silverstone next week. But some fans have been left unconvinced at the seven-time world champion’s miraculous recovery.

One Twitter user wrote: “Lewis Hamilton became third today. He has miraculously healed from his crippling back problems within one week. Bad actor!”

Another tweeted: “Funny how when finishing on the podium his bad back isn't a concern …shock,” while a third wrote: “Just wait and see… the 'back pain' will come back if he doesn’t get a podium in the next race.”
