The TB12-AB connection is no more.
Antonio Brown just … left midway through Week 17’s Buccaneers-Jets matchup, much to the chagrin of his quarterback Tom Brady.
The Buccaneers wideout stunningly stripped off his jersey, shoulderpads and undershirt before running off the field topless to the locker room during the game. Coach Bruce Arians confirmed following the game that Brown was “no longer a Buc,” meaning that could be the last time we see Brown on a football field.
Brady weighed in on Brown’s stunning departure following the game:
“That’s obviously a difficult situation,” Brady said postgame. “We all love him and care about him deeply. We want to see him be at his best. Unfortunately, that won’t be with our team.
“I think the most important thing about football are the relationships with your friends and teammates and they go beyond the field. I think everyone should be very compassionate and empathetic toward some very difficult things.”
Brady said he didn’t know that Brown left in the middle of the game, instead finding out afterward.
The Buccaneers quarterback and former Bucs wide receiver have one prior stop together in the NFL, playing a very, very short stint together in 2019 with the Patriots. Without Brown on the field, the Buccaneers beat the Jets with a late touchdown, pushing Tampa Bay to 12 wins on the season.
Arians has said in the past that Brown was on thin ice, and that if he “screwed up once,” then Tampa Bay would release him.
Several screw-ups later, Brown is gone.
