Tyron Woodley’s coach would have partied night away if Jake Paul fight was fixed

Tyron Woodley's coach has responded to online conspiracy theorists who say his fighter took notice of a hand signal from Jake Paul which instructed him to fall to the canvas from the YouTuber-turned-boxer's punch.

The MMA fighter stepped in at short notice to take on the YouTuber for a second time after Paul's planned opponent Tommy Fury pulled out through injury.

It was the second time the pair had met in the ring, with former UFC champion Woodley hoping to fare better after being on the wrong end of a split decision call from the judges earlier this year.

But it was an even more painful ending for him this time, as he was knocked out cold by a brutal right-hander in the sixth round.

Not everyone watching was convinced, though, as some took a strange wrist moment from Paul in the moments before the knockout blow as evidence that it had been a 'signal' and that the fight was scripted.

Woodley's coach Din Thomas has laughed off those suggestions, and said if it were true then he would have been out partying rather than been in the former UFC fighter's corner on the night.

"That whole theory, it makes me laugh. Because being in his camp, I know how serious it was," the coach told SiriusXM.

"It was serious. like Tyron really wanted this win back, he really wanted this fight and it was a serious thing.

"Now, if it was a dive, I wish they told me about it because I wouldn't have shown up and taken the night off.

"I'd be partying but that wasn't the case. I mean it was a real, legit fight."

Explaining the sudden and unexpected knockout, Woodley said he had dropped his hand in a momentary lapse in concentration which had proven fatal to his chances of winning.

"I fight for my kids and my family. I told you guys I was in shape, I told you guys I was ready to fight, and I told you guys I was in better shape than he was," he said.

"So, I did that tonight and went back and looked at it and thought: 'Why the f**k did I drop my hands?'

"I was ready, I had both my hands up and I was expecting the overhand. I knew he was gonna delay the punch. But even if he delayed it, I was ready for it.

"Even if he didn’t delay I don’t know why I dropped my guard. In this sport, it takes only one mistake, just one mistake, I blocked so many of his shots."
