McGregor brands Gaethje 'grade A jackass' and 'bird brain' after loss

Conor McGregor brands Justin Gaethje ‘a grade A jackass’ and ‘bird brain’ as Irishman hits out at lightweight rival after UFC 274 defeat

Conor McGregor has hit out at Justin Gaethje, calling his UFC lightweight rival a ‘bird brain’ and ‘grade A jackass’.

The Irishman was an interested observer for Charles Oliveira’s defeat of the American at UFC 274 at the weekend.

And he launched an unprompted tirade on social media, hitting out at Gaethje following his first-round submission loss in Phoenix.

Conor McGregor lashed out at Justin Gaethje following the American’s defeat at UFC 274

Charles Oliveira submitted Gaethje in the first round of their clash in the main event

McGregor wrote: ‘Gaethje is a jackass. The amount of absolute dribble he speaks as well. Over and over. A Grade A jackass!

‘A bird brain with a bird brain manager. Two bum t***s they are. He is. A Jackass. Stevo Ocrack head in recovery should see can Johnny give him a part.’

Gaethje’s manager is Ali Abdelaziz, who previously managed McGregor’s great rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

It seems the Dubliner took pleasure in watching ‘The Highlight’ fall short in the main event on Saturday and he was the name on everyone’s lips.

Both Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira referenced him in their post-fight interviews.

Chandler called him out, saying: ‘I have one dude on my mind, Conor McGregor! You’ve gotta come down to fight somebody.

‘I am the most entertaining lightweight on the planet. I want to up the stakes, Conor. I want you at your biggest, I want you at your baddest and I want you at your best.

‘You and me, at 170, this summer, this fall, this winter.’

And within minutes, Notorious took to Twitter to provide a positive response and predicted a memorable contest.

He wrote: ‘I’d have a nice knock off this guy, no doubt about it. A firework spectacle.

‘I like the 170 shout also. Tipped him over. I’m definitely game to fight this guy at some stage in my career. I see it happening after tonight.

‘Congrats on a solid win Michael and another barnstormer.’

Oliveira is now technically the No 1 contender rather than champion and called out McGregor

Charles Oliveira also called out McGregor and it seems the Irishman is assessing his options. He later wrote: ‘I’m not sure I wish to cut the weight. I am really enjoying being built like a refrigerator.

‘I feel I want to fight at this size just to watch it back lol. But I’d love to fight the Brazilian, 100 per cent! I love Brazil and I’m unbeaten against Brazil. All KOs. I’ve some thinking to do.’

McGregor is still a lucrative option for fighters despite some of his aura disappearing on a run of one win since 2016.

It will be fascinating to see who the UFC line him up against when he returns from the broken leg he suffered last year.
