Luis Ortiz beats Charles Martin with brutal KO – but fans fume over ‘awful’ ref

Veteran Cuban boxer Luis Ortiz picked himself up off the canvas twice to knockout 'Prince' Charles Martin, but fans have slammed the referee.

Ortiz extended his record to 33-2, both losses against Deontay Wilder, with a clubbing left hand that caught Martin in the sixth.

However, the fight wasn't called immediately despite Martin clearly being out on his feet.

Martin was unable to bring his hands up to protect himself, and after a moment of hesitation, Ortiz was able to land more shots before the referee stepped in.

And fans have slammed the official online, believing he should have stepped in earlier.

"That is one truly awful referee, stop the fight when he clearly has no idea where he is and starts getting punched in the back of the head," one fan fumed.

"Wait a min bro what is the ref doing?!? He’s terrible. This dude was out on his feet he should have jumped in immediately," a second added.

A third fumed: "The ref should have been in there long before Martin touched the canvas. These are 18 stone fellas where one punch can change a life."

"Absolutely shocking from the ref here. WTF was he waiting for," a third tweeted.

Martin had been leading the fight up until that point, as well as dropping Ortiz to the canvas twice it was believed he was leading in the scores too.

The victory has positioned Ortiz to potentially become the mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk's IBF belt.
