"Idiot" John Fury almost sparks mass brawl as Tyson and Dillian Whyte face off

Dillian Whyte slammed Tyson Fury’s dad, John, as an “idiot” after he almost sparked a huge brawl at Wednesday’s pre-fight press conference.

Fury is set to defend his WBC belt against long-time nemesis Whyte at Wembley on Saturday. Both heavyweights were in good spirits as they faced-off ahead of their highly-anticipated bout.

But a melee almost broke out after John, 57, stepped forward during their stare off and yelled at Whyte’s entourage, including his brother Dean. There was shoving and arguing as Whyte and Fury Jr were forced to calm things down, leading the former to mock “600 year-old” John for his role in the altercation.

Speaking to BT Sport, Whyte said: “Tyson Fury’s dad needs to relax. My man’s 600 old and he’s stepping forward.

“I said to him: ‘John, calm down, you’re an adult. You keep shouting and screaming like a child. It’s me and Tyson’s day, relax. Why are you getting yourself involved? You’re an old man, take it easy.’”

When asked if the melee was Fury Sr’s fault, Whyte added: “There was no melee, John was trying to start something. It’s stupid, he wants to rob the 90,000 fans out of a fight.

"John Fury is an idiot. He’s a real idiot.”

Fury was also asked about the scuffle in the aftermath, with the Gypsy King urging the two respective entourages to back off and let the fight do the talking.

He said: “I've just prevented a big ruckus on stage. People want a big ruckus, they want to see punching and screaming, but let the two boxers do a fight and enjoy it. It's not for entourages to get involved.

"We're here to do a fight. People are in for a real fight. We don't need to scream and shout.”

The conference was the first time the two boxers were able to size each other up since the fight was announced. Whyte opted out of their announcement press conference in March, leaving a barrage of insults between the two and a previous sparring session as their only encounters until Wednesday.
