The WBO post, liked more than 4,000 times, read: ‘The WBO Family wishes lots of love and happiness to the recently married couple, Unified WBO Super Middleweight Champion Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and Fernanda Gómez.’
A comment underneath stated: ‘Canelo was so confident in beating BJS he had his wedding booked a week after,’ followed by four boxing glove emojis and a cry-laughing emoji.
Heavy underdog Saunders was rocked by a brutal uppercut in the eighth round, causing him to receive a broken cheek and eye socket which meant his team ended the fight with Saunders on his stool.
Alvarez has been with Gomez for almost five years and the pair have two children together
Alvarez was leading on all three scorecards – 78-74 on two and 77-75 on the other – and was heavy favourite to win.
His marriage to Gomez comes after nearly five years together, and the couple have two children together.
Up next he could fight IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant in a fight which would see him completely unify the division.
