Police spoke to Dominic Thiem after neighbours thought he was ‘shooting porn’

Police were called to speak to tennis star Dominic Thiem after neighbours thought they were hearing ‘porn noises’.

Thiem, 28, has been training in the Austrian village of Traiskirchen in a return to action after a long-term wrist injury. But a bizarre episode saw neighbours call police to the property where the former world No.3 had been staying and training.

Austrian media report the neighbours in question had grown weary of hearing raucous moaning from his training complex, which went on for more than an hour. And it is claimed they believed a porn film was actually being recorded there.

But when police arrived to see what was going on, they discovered the noises had been from Thiem in fact hitting tennis balls. The officers drove off after questioning the former US Open winner in a peculiar incident even he found amusing.

He told 03 Radio: “It’s not the first time that people have complained. I’ve known that since I was very small. It’s always very funny, not entirely incomprehensible, the noises can get loud and strange.

“I trained upper body free, everyone found my body so good that they thought we were shooting porn there.”

He has been out of action due to a wrist problem for the last nine months and has dropped to 352nd in the world rankings. He returned to action at the French Open but was beaten by eventual finalist Casper Ruud in the first round.

Thiem reached his first major semi-final at the French Open and went on to play in consecutive Roland Garros finals in 2018 and 2019. He lost both to clay court master Rafael Nadal, before losing to Novak Djokovic in the 2020 Australian Open final.

He was eventually able to get his hands on a Grand Slam two years ago when he came back in the 2020 US Open final to defeat German Alexander Zverev.
