Cricket ace in fake sexting storm after rumour of texting team-mate’s partner

Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam has been caught up in a false sexting storm after a made up allegation went viral online.

The bizarre accusations came from a Twitter post that went viral in which Azam was accused of sexting the girlfriend of a fellow Pakistan international.

The false accusation was posted by a parody account, with the handle @niiravmodi, who tweeted: “Babar Azam sexting with GF of another Pakistan cricketer and promising her that her bf won’t be out of the team if she keeps sexting with him is just."

The tweet, now deleted, went viral online and hours later the user of the page blasted all those who had believed the rumour.

He posted: “I was the one who started bf in team story, this was fake. Apologise to Babar.”

Supporters of the Pakistan Test captain have taken to Twitter and the hashtag #StayStrongBabarAzam has been trending on the platform.

Pakistan Cricket also got involved in the saga posting to a media outlet: "As our media partner, you might consider ignoring such unsubstantiated personal allegations which Babar Azam has not deemed worthy of a response."

Azam, aged 28, has played 47 Test matches for his country and has been the captain since November 2020. However, he has come under pressure after England recorded a whitewash 3-0 in Pakistan last month.

Despite the defeat Azam did record some history as he became the first Pakistan batsman in six years to record 1,000 Test runs during a calendar year

Not deterred by internet rumours about him, Azam posted a picture on Twitter of himself by the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the comment: "Doesn't take too much to be happy."

Using the #StayStrongBabarAzam hashtag fans have sent their support to the nation's skipper. @rasool_irzam posted a picture of Azam in his 56 shirt with the comment: "Baber Azam, our captain, and our inspiration. Together we will overcome any obstacle and achieve greatness."
