Australian Open TV coverage stops after tennis fan’s sex act gesture behind host

Eurosport's coverage of the Australian Open was disrupted after a fan made a lewd sex act gesture behind an unsuspecting reporter.

The incident happened as Barbara Schett – the former world No7 – was standing in the middle of Melbourne Park looking ahead to the day's action. Eurosport had just screened an interview Schett did with Ons Jabeur when the studio became filled with laughter.

However, the broadcast then took a more unsavoury tone as a tennis fan started making lewd gestures behind Schett. The man, wearing a hoody and cap, mimicked a blowjob using his hands and mouth as the unsuspecting TV presenter carried on talking.

It didn't take long before the fan was seemingly told to move along by production staff and he soon left the scene. Schett appeared to be completely unaware at what was happening behind her as she carried on with the coverage like a true professional.

Spectators have been in the spotlight throughout the Australian Open for a variety of incidents. Novak Djokovic claimed a tennis fan was paralytically drunk during his match on Thursday in a repeat of counterpart similar grumbles from Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon last year.

Djokovic brought his second round match to an abrupt halt to complain about a fan who he claimed was "drunk out of his mind" to the umpire.

Elsewhere, three supporters were booted out of the stands for heckling during Cameron Norrie's second round clash with Constant Lestienne, which he won 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-3.

Fans could be loudly heard chanting "Enger-land" in the stands, before some broke into a rendition of "Constant's going home" and "You're just a s*** Andy Murray".

Their actions even attracted the attention of BBC commentator David Law, who said: "This is all a bit awkward with spectators heckling Lestienne after he refused to play. Lestienne's irritation is there for all to see, he is jabbering away at the umpire, and I don't think he wants to be out there.

"Somebody in the crowd has just shouted 'Come on mate, we've waited all day for this'. The locals are not happy. Lestienne is fuming and his bad mood is about to get worse."
